Apollyon Records is thrilled to announce the release of Heart Cry, the debut
album from South Jersey singer/songwriter Dez Childs. This 12-song album of
Contemporary Christian music contains rock, pop and acoustic songs that inspire,
encourage and challenge the heart. Appropriately titled, Heart Cry was produced
by Dez’ husband Steve Childs. The album represents the culmination of their
two-year long writing, production and recording effort.
The highly emotional piano ballad Father Song was co-written with Tara Bruce,
author of Why is Collin Like That? from Xulon Press. Like the book, Father Song
tells about the challenges faced by members of a family with an autistic child.
Don’t Belong tells the story of how Dez struggled and ultimately learned to
accept herself and her beliefs in a culture that seems to stress fitting in.
This song will be the first music video release of the album. Breaking Me Down
(Layer by Layer) is the most personal song on the album. Through this song, Dez
shares her battle with anxiety and depersonalization disorder, both of which she
has struggled with since childhood.
Dez has been performing her original music throughout New Jersey and the
Philadelphia area for the past year. She has performed solo acoustic and full
band shows and has many more dates lined up. She is also planning a regional
tour for 2013. Earlier this year Dez opened for Dave Barnes at World Café Live
in Philadelphia.

About Dez Childs
The life of Dez Childs is a story of three paths: One geographic, one musical
and one spiritual. From an early age she has traveled each of these roads
gaining knowledge, experience and faith. The combination of these experiences,
hard work, and a wellspring of God-given talent have resulted in a remarkable
musician and a beautiful person.
Although she never considered herself a singer-songwriter, during her final
semester at Calvary Chapel Bible College she wrote the song Heart Cry while
hanging out in the school cafeteria. The following summer the ideas really
started flowing and she began work on her first full-length album. After a few
years of what seemed like a roller coaster ride of heartache, bad choices and
the consequences of those choices, Dez decided to put her story into the form of
music. Dez loves to laugh and have fun, but her music expresses a different and
deeper side of her. Her lyrics challenge the heart, and the music is written to
reflect that challenge. Ultimately, she hopes to emulate the music that God has
used to encourage her and get her back on track when she has lost her way!
